The South Florida congressional district is held by Debbie Wasserman Schultz who may shift her campaign to U.S. House Disctrict 22.
A former candidate for a South Florida congressional seat is now running for a different seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Republican Dan Franzese has officially announced he is running for the CD 25 seat in South Florida, currently held by Democrat Debbie Wasserman Schultz. He joins five other Republicans competing for the party’s nomination in the Primary on August 18, ahead of the General Election on Nov. 3.
During his campaign announcement on Sunday, Franzese said he would take a Republican “America First” approach, following President Donald Trump’s example, if elected to the U.S. House of Representatives.
“Florida families have been betrayed by career politicians far too many times,” Franzese said in a news release Sunday. “As a political outsider from the business world, President Trump has been draining the swamp, delivering secure borders, and an America First agenda.”
“In Congress, I’ll use that same experience to back him up, make life more affordable again, and hold career politicians accountable. The people of CD 25 deserve a fighter who shows up, tells the truth, and delivers, not another ladder climber cutting deals behind closed doors.”
For Franzese, this is another campaign against a well-established Democratic congressional representative. He previously ran against U.S. Rep. Lois Frankel for the 22nd Congressional District, which covers much of Palm Beach County, in both 2024 and 2022. He first announced a run for the CD 22 seat earlier this year, but has now switched to the CD 25 race.
Franzese’s move to CD 25 brings new challenges for the seat, which once focused on southern Broward County and now stretches into Miami-Dade. The district was changed as part of a redistricting plan approved by the Florida Legislature in a special session earlier this month. Wasserman Schultz has been well established in this area.
The new Congressional District now covers the Southeast Florida coast, stretching from Delray Beach to Miami.
Wasserman Schultz has said she may shift her campaign to the CD 22 seat, which would be her 12th run for Congress. Jared Moskowitz, a Democrat representing District 23, has suggested he might run for the CD 25 seat. Frankel has announced that she’s running for that CD 23 seat.
Franzese defeated two Republicans in the 2024 Primary and ultimately lost to Frankel in the General Election. He faces fellow Republicans Scott Singer, George Moraitis, Joe Kaufman, Raven Harrison and Jared Gurfein. A poll Franzese published Sunday, conducted by the McLaughlin & Associates research firm, shows no clear GOP leader in the CD 25 race, though Singer leads with 16% among some 300 Republicans surveyed.
